Our Service to Others
While Sigma Alpha Mu is considered a “Social” Fraternity, Gamma Lambda Chapter at Northern Illinois is dedicated to being something more. By giving back to the local community, university, and through our Chapter Philanthropy projects we have become better members, and better men. During the 2009-2010 academic year, the chapter compiled nearly 2400 Community Service Hours- an average of over 50 hours per man- by far the highest on NIU's campus. Through the hosting and participation in Philanthropic events, the chapter also was able to help raise over $43,000 dollars in support of a host of causes. The chapter has made it a goal to beat these numbers next year, continuing the tradition the members of SAM have forged in providing service to those less fortunate than ourselves.
